For as long as I can remember, the argument over illegal immigration along the US & Mexico border has been dominated by the perception that any effort to block these people from trying to cross the border shows both your heartlessness and lack compassion. By not allowing them to escape their deplorable living conditions in Mexico, Americans are causing not only a terrific social injustice, but a great moral harm as well. Building a wall or forcing them to go through legal immigration channels is thee unforgiveable sin.
To cement the idea in the hearts and minds of the American people, some benevolent source, more socially woke then the rest of us, bombards us with pictures, videos and news stories about separated children from their parents, children locked in cages and the horrendous living conditions they are forced to live in because of our unwillingness to share the American dream with these unfortunate immigrants. They are, as we are routinely scolded, no different than our forefathers who journeyed from the farthest reaches of the world through Ellis Island a century ago seeking a better life.
To further club people into submission, the label of racist, white supremacist, uncle Tom (if you’re a Black hater), and white Hispanic (if you’re a Latino hater) is thrown in for good measure as well, just to get you to sit down and shut up.
If you show any signs of resistance to the cause after that beat down, it may get reported to your newly indoctrinated employer to whom it will then be necessary to separate you from your job so that you can finally get your mind right and your employer can show just how socially responsible they are as well. Thus, after having been finally awakened to the proper way to respond to illegal immigration, you too can show your love and respect for the cause as well.
But…., and that’s a big but…, is this truly showing love and compassion?
Unfortunately, for many in this country, love has come to mean unrestricted access to anything you want without any balancing force whatsoever. It is purely an emotional response to outside stimulus without any regard to limits or boundaries.
Thus, true love, according to the enlightened progressive masses includes: sex at any age, abortion for any reason, forgiveness of any debt, income for no work, fluid and unhindered transition to any gender and wide open borders without any regulation or oversight. This same mindset also drives the thought process which allows the homeless in California unrestricted access to harmful and illegal drugs, disease infested tent cities wherever they want and the use of any random public location as their personal toilet.
Love is, according to progressive conventional wisdom, the highest form of evolutionary development and has, no boundaries. Unless of course you disagree with this line of reasoning, then be prepared to be shown absolutely no love, nor given any quarter.
Traditional thought or wisdom says you show your love by providing healthy boundaries. In other words, you don’t allow your child to wander out on the highway, just because they are curious and want to see what the world is like on the other side.
Traditional love says no from time to time specifically because a yes would cause more harm then good.
For example, illegal border crossings are very dangerous to those attempting to cross because they routinely enlist the help of guides known as “coyotes.” These guides are notorious for abusing and raping their charges, both male and female.
It is also not uncommon for families to be separated and young children to become orphaned into the United States. And how many children never even make it across the border having been kidnapped into the child slave trade or disappear altogether never to be seen again.
We say we want science and data to dictate our behavior and yet we continue to allow our irrational and emotional responses to drive our irresponsible decisions. For the sake of what? The destabilization of our country?
Is having millions upon millions of undocumented people running around our country helpful or problematic?
I’m not trying to lecture anyone here, but sincerely would like to know the end game of all of what seems to me like a self-destructive policy of virtually no immigration enforcement.
Even Ellis Island was a specific port of entry where all European immigrants were funneled through legally. I don’t believe the argument from the conservative opposition has ever been to not let immigrants into our country, but merely to have some order and accountability for those who cross our borders.
Anything less than this is foolishness and causes irreparable harm to our country for the sake of politics and power.
