Giving Thanks for Someone Truly Special

I’ve often heard people say that Jesus is a crutch, and I believe they are correct in saying this, but not for the same reasons they might think.

You see, I want to be clear that He is not only a crutch, but the most reliable crutch I’ve ever known, and so much more.

Sometimes Christians can get weak in the knees when confronted by a forceful personality who boldly proclaims this supposed knock out line, “Jesus is a crutch,” but shouldn’t we rather embrace it? Shouldn’t we confidently agree with this assertion and reflect on the healing and peace he has brought into our lives?

Afterall, aren’t we all leaning on, or trusting in someone or something? And if you’ve lived on this earth for any length of time, it doesn’t take you long to figure out that drugs and alcohol, while fun for a season, are lousy crutches.

How about your well meaning friends and not always so well meaning families?  Eventually, everyone lets you down in some way or another.

In the Bible, book of Isaiah, 9th chapter, the writer predicts that God will come in the flesh, and He will be called Wonderful Counselor, and the Prince of Peace.

In a later chapter of Isaiah, chapter 61, He is referred to as someone who has been sent to bind up the broken hearted, to release prisoners from captivity, and to comfort those who mourn.

Finally, not in totality, but to keep this somewhat brief, Jesus himself said in the New Testament book of Matthew , chapter 11, “Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” And that, “you will find rest for your souls.”

Healer,  comforter, guide and so much more.   And not only has He picked me up every time I’ve stumbled and fallen, but hands down the best crutch I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing.

So next time someone tells you your Jesus is a crutch, instead of shrinking away, politely agree with them, and boldly proclaim what He has indeed done in your life, that is, providing you have actually put your trust in His care.

If not, read John chapter 3, and Acts chapter 2, in the Bible to find out how you too can come to lean your crippled mind and body on the best crutch who has ever walked the earth.

Just a fellow traveler in this journey called life whose been all over the proverbial map. I was a Captain in the United States Army, an internet entrepreneur before it's time, an Actor, a Real Estate Agent, Social Worker, Executive Director of a non-profit, a Production Foreman, Team Leader, Technical Writer, Small Business Owner, and a Quality and Operations Manager. As a volunteer, I have taught, coached, written lesson plans, led small groups and mentored men as a part of Christian Ministry. I currently work with men as a lay counselor both in and out of jail. I am a guy who never knew what I wanted to be when I grew up and quite frankly, still not really sure. I like to write stories, commentary, screenplays and a little poetry that I hope will make you think about more than what you’re wearing today, or whether your favorite team won the big game. My wife Jill and I have three adult children and two grandchildren. When I’m not working or enjoying my family, I find pleasure in the pursuit of writing thought provoking stories and poetry about the human drama.
